Screen Time

“The key is to balance screen time with your child’s real life experiences and make sure they have lots of real opportunities to learn about the world” - Janet Cooper

Research has shown the impact that screen time has on young children. As a setting screen time is used safely with intent as a recourse. At home we understand how digital screens are a part of modern life, but finding the right balance between screen time and other activities for young children can be tricky.

The government has given us new guidance regarding screen time encouraging to limit total screen time for young children, wherever possible.

  • Under 2 years: Avoid screen time other than for shared activities with family that encourage bonding, interaction and conversation.

  • 2-5 years: Try to keep it to 1 hour a day. Less if possible.

Content is recommended to be slow paced and safe. Children should avoid social media and AI. As a parent/ carer it is important to reflect on your personal use of screen time, children lead by example so be mindful of what they can see as well as hear. Screen time can also create a barrier causing you to not be present.
